Photo of Corrine Monique

After reviewing Corinne Monique Designs, We here at Longe is excited to announce she will be apart of the first quarter printed of Longe magazine.

On behalf of her press house;

Many people dream of traveling to far away places, visiting exotic cities and partaking of cultural rituals. However,  for one Toronto based fashion designer, the next step from wolfing in wanderlust is to create the experience as a fashionable medium.

{photo of Corinne Monique Designs}

Corinne Monique's designs are inspired by elements of nature and cultures she has yet to experience. During February's New York Fashion Week, Corinne displayed garments that evoke exoticism of the far east; and is a modern take on an ancient oriental style worn by a warrior empress of the future. The Corinne Monique Fall/Winter 2013 collection is titled, 'The Year of the Serpent'. Some of the fabrics are hand made by Corinne. Handmade fabrics are one part of the custom approach to the Corinne Monique's ready-to-wear dresses. The collection was presented using seductive colors and sensual textures such as silks, wool, printed velvets, lace, and gilded finishes. Pieces of decadent fabrics are adored with mythical creatures to symbolize 2013 as the year of the serpent. The fashion looks were cut using ready-to-wear dresses, yet finished with haute couture techniques. "I design fashions for a wide range demographic. My creations are for the twentyish woman to a more sophisticated woman. And the aesthetic is more about what I would like to wear. But I have created full figured fashions for a local boutique in Toronto too. So, I like to keep my future creative options open" says Corinne.

Corinne Monique is one of New York Fashion Week's emerging designer talents for the fall 2013 season. This is Corinne's first experience presenting during New York's market week. "I've normally created fashions for myself or as commissioned special orders, but I am hoping to sell and get my fashions in boutiques across North America. The Rogues Gallery Presents production team was really organized, and my experience was actually very good! I'm still excited and would definitely present in the New York fashion market again. I thought all the designers who presented in the RGP collective were really amazing! I'm so happy to have been a part of it." claims Corinne. The Corinne Monique Collection offers timeless and luxurious fashions for today's modern woman ...who is well traveled or maybe not.

Hey, my name is Jacqueline Rivera, but I go by Mz.Rivera. I am 24 years old. Born August 10th, 1988 In Norwalk, Ct. I am African American, and Puerto Rican. I have no kids, I graduated from high school in 2006 from Norwalk High School, In 2011 I enrolled in porter & Chester for the Medical Assistant program and graduated August 2012 with an A & B average. Education is very important to me. I am going to become a nurse with a minor in psychology while pursing my dream to become a model. I started modeling in 2009 at the age of 20. I've done many photo shoots in NY and Ct. My first shoot was in Madison Ct at D'vine Studios, my first experience was very good, I was a bit nervous but the pictures came out great, they are some of my favorites. Another shoot I did that I was very happy with was the shoot I did in Harlem, NY with a photographer name Donte909, I loved the way he looked my previous work and stirred away from it completely, and the way he edited my pictures was excellent. I definitely recommend Both parties to anyone. Another shoot that landed me my first feature in an online magazine for hair and beauty was with, I was so excited when they offered me a feature. In the time that I've been modeling I've done 2 fashion shows both in which was in Stamford, Ct. The fashion show that I did for the Longe magazine Conference was a very good experience and I got to be in the magazine. I've also done Independent music videos, my first video was so funny, I was nervous and excited, It was for the hip hop artist out of CT called Mr.gotitlike feat: Fred J.R. both are very talented, I am very happy I got to work with them. I've also done some promotional work one shoot being with a group out of Harlem, NY called “ALL 4 One” they are very nice people and I had a lot of fun. In my experience I have learned a lot and met a lot of nice people and some not so nice people. One thing that is very clear in this industry is that you have to be street and book smart and a very strong person. The things that I came across made me a better person and a smarter person and I am truly grateful for it all.

The NYC Fashion Runway “After Dark” Fashion Show at The Empire State Building Featuring Designers Maria de Guzman , Boho Designs and A Being Born Again Couture. The Show featured famous artists from MoMA, Artspace and MCA including Eliot Porter, Willem de Kooning and Barnaby Furnas. The overall location was excellent, The Empire State Building for a fashion? Yes, Yes, Yes who could have asked for more. The house was packed and the clothing was showcased by designers that has vision and well made clothing on their models. The village style runways setup was a bit off, as the big gap between sets allowed the crowd to become uneasy, but nothing a drink could not fix. Spotlights for the runway path would have increase visibility on the fashion to media, buyers and audience. (Understanding it's a "After Dark" show), but, the main purpose was always to showcase the runway fashion, and for clothing to being seen properly.

It’s fall! And yes, colors are so in

  • Written by Ajide, Tolulope

Hello again lovely readers,

It’s fall! And yes, colors are so in.

It is a general concession that the economy is slowly moving out of a great depression, so many people are not so quick to splurge on seasonal shopping sprees but are still looking forward to setting trends in their own individual and unique ways. This is where I come in! I am here to try to help you work with what you already have and spend much less in new accessories so that you may be able to save. One of the first things to know about fashion is that it always comes back in style, mostly in different variations of the original look to showcase another perspective. So have no fear, I am sure we can work with what you already have to try to help bring relief to an already tight budget and still keep true to who you are!

There are different ways to save on shopping when working with a tight budget, such as individual/unique combinations from already existing wardrobe, saving by shopping at second-hand stores, shopping online to save through discounts and sometimes no tax sales…….and so many more. Our focus though for now is the first option, and that is working with what is already available. This is a chance to find out individual styles through the experimentation's involved when trying to come up with a look that best represents us when we put them together.

Many seem to feel more comfortable with wearing colors only in the spring and summer seasons, yet allotting the more somber colors to the fall season. Fall is a very colorfully seasons with different tones of yellows and oranges, and the fallen autumn leaves eventually turning into a rich chocolate toned brown color that seems to glow with its richness. The fall yellow and orange colors seem to range from a brightness so stunning it could only have been expected in the seasons of a high summer and yet, at times the falling leaves come down in a gentler and more subtle shades that would be flawless on any skin tone. Fall season shouldn’t be a time to abstain from colors, but an opportunity to bring together not only the bright colors of spring and summer but also the darker, gentler and more subtle tones that make fall so perfectly unique and beautiful. So don’t be afraid to play around with the colors you already have in your closet to come up with your very own individual and personal style.

So, feel free to experiment with your colors to figure out what styles best suits your individuality and/or personality. Be aware that this is about you, and the goal is for you to combine who you are with your fashion statement to (in some cases) help the individual find their voice. Here is an example I believe might be a door opener to many closet fashionistas: A quick assemble is combining your bright colored skinny jeans, dark tone top, a blazer jacket and a scarf matched with a closed-toe pumps, and you have a nice, simple yet classy outfit. This is just an idea to sought of “get the ball rolling”; It is important to know that you don’t have to be afraid to experiment with different ideas, just because your ideas might be different/unique does not make it wrong. Accepting ourselves for who we are is a great path towards confidence and might even help others to have a more open mind toward individuality!

The story is yours to tell, so what will it be? I hope you are as excited as I am at the endless possibilities of styles, ideas and we will like to see pictures of some of your combinations. Some of these pictures could be posted on the Longe magazine website as a Longe favorite. So please email your pictures to us at and your picture might be chosen as a favorite to be posted. We can’t wait to hear from you and thank you so much for stopping by, we appreciate your visit and hope you come back. So until next time, I wish you adieu!

Yours faithfull

Ajide, Tolulope
